About
A penguin writing code on the ice, slowly.
Hi, I'm Qide Mao
I focus on game client development, with project experience spanning Unreal Engine 5, Godot, C++ graphics, and engine engineering, alongside ongoing exploration of AI-assisted development.
I'm currently in the Master's Program in Software Engineering at Beijing City University (2025.09—2028.07), and received the First Prize of the Graduate Academic Scholarship.
Skills
Engine
Experienced with Unreal Engine 5, UE C++, and visual scripting with Blueprints; familiar with the core Godot development workflow.
Programming
Proficient in C++, RAII, C++20/23, and object-oriented programming; understands memory management and low-level mechanisms; familiar with Rust and Python fundamentals.
Graphics
Independently developed a software rasterizer and worked with model loading, coordinate transforms, camera control, lighting calculations, and the basic rendering pipeline.
Workflow
Familiar with Linux, Git, SSH, Vim, and CLI tools, with long-term use of Arch Linux as the primary development environment; uses CodeBuddy, Claude Code, OpenCode, and Codex for AI-assisted development and code review.
Work
My projects are on the Work page: Reforge, a UE5 top-down multiplayer survival-building game; Changjiang Journey, a Godot text adventure about Wuhan's history and culture; a UE5 first-person shooter demo; and a modernization of the Hazel C++ game engine.
This site
This is my personal blog, where I keep notes on learning graphics, game development and game design.
- Writing — technical notes, dev logs and reading notes meant for others;
- Work — games, renderers and tools I've built;
- Wiki — learning notes organised after the "LLM Wiki" pattern, covering rendering, engines, game math, design and art, with hundreds of interlinked pages (in Chinese);
- Library — the source material behind those notes, readable online.
